Coconut Chutney

Ingredients:
  • Coconut ( shredded) - 1 cup
  • Pottukadalai /split gram(dalia) - 1 tbsp
  • Green Chillies - 2 to 3 nos(depends on ur spicy)
  • Ginger - 1 pinch
  • Garlic (small) - 1/2 no
  • Tamarind - 2 pinch

For Thalipu:

  • Curry Leaves - 5 to 6 ns
  • Mustard seeds - 1tsp
  • Urad Dal - 1/2 tsp
  • Dry Red Chillies - 1 no
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Salt To Taste
Method:
Grind the shredded coconut , pottukadalai/split gram , green chillies, garlic, ginger, tamarind ,salt to a fine paste by adding little amount of water to it .Transfer this paste to a small serving bowl & adjust the consistency by adding required amount of water .Keep a kadai ,add oil to it & leave it for 2 to 3 mins till the oil comes hot enough.Add mustard seeds ,allow it to splutter & then add urad dal ,dry red chillies ,curry leaves & fry till the urad dal turns golden brown in color. Now pour this thalipu to the chutney paste (which we kept in a serving bowl)& check for salt ........Serve it with idly ,dosa ,vada,venpongal,.......

எங்கள் வீட்டிலும் இப்படி தான் இஞ்சி + பூண்டு சேர்த்து அரைப்பேன்...மிகவும் சுவையாக இருக்கும்..

I do add ginger but never garlic and tamarind, very new to me too..

Madam, i am siva from qatar. Whenever i make coconut chutney i will not satisfy because of raw smell (Pacha vadai). Finally i tried this method, it comes very nice. Thanks. Onething clarify for me. Is it required to add Asafetida powder while thalipu and is it required to roast the pottukadalai before grinding?
